Back by popular demand! Having lied through his teeth at his US presidential election night lecture, ‘Another Kind of Fireworks’, that a Trump victory would change very little, Dr Andrew Wines returns to the Christ’s Hospital Theatre to explore with you the long heritage and enduring legacy of American toxic narratives and conspiracy theories through the lens of literature, visual imagery, cinema and music.
‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson, Jay Gatsby, the Roaring 20s, the Klan, Red Scares, Charles Lindbergh, ‘stolen’ elections, the JFK assassination, the Rev. Al Sharpton, David Koresh, O.J. Simpson, the Clintons and Russian intrigue will all feature on this journey through the fear and paranoia that shape American politics and society.
The event is interactive, and you will have ample opportunity to share your insights and views. Don’t miss this chance to examine the tales Americans tell themselves and to understand better the fragility of US democracy and its global ramifications. It’s going to be huge!

Christ’s Hospital presents an amateur production of Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters!
Terry Pratchett takes Shakespeare’s Macbeth and then turns it up ’til the knob comes off! It’s all there – a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three witches. Granny Weatherwax (intolerant, self-opinionated, powerful), Nanny Ogg (down-to-earth, comical and cheeky) and Magrat Garlick (naïve and fond of occult jewellery and bunnies).
Come and see our junior cast tackle this comical and engaging play, sure to entertain!
